Mouse Button Tester
Free · No installSee every press and release. Check all three main buttons with deliberate single clicks.
A mouse needs a computer.
Open this page on a computer and connect your mouse to test it. You can copy the link below.
A connected mouse on a touchscreen device can also work. Touch taps cannot test physical mouse buttons.
Click left, right and middle 5+ times each. Pause about ½ second between clicks. Side buttons are optional.
Back/Forward mouse events and delivered navigation shortcuts are blocked while a test is active. The diagram uses a default layout: front side = Forward (F), rear side = Back (B), as on a default Logitech G102. A driver command that never reaches this page may still navigate; use standard side-button assignments in your mouse software for this test.
Your result
Browser observations only. Compare another port or computer before concluding there is a hardware fault.
How to read your result
For this mouse button test, a clean cycle is one press and its matching release. Click each main button at least five times, leaving roughly half a second between clicks. Side buttons are optional because some systems reserve them. A Normal sample means the required events arrived without the short repeats this protocol checks. Excellent requires ten clean cycles for each main button. The score is the percentage of complete cycles after subtracting observed repeat and unmatched-event signals; it is not a laboratory hardware rating. A short repeat can be intentional, so follow the paced instructions before treating it as suspicious. Missing events keep the result incomplete instead of declaring an untouched button broken. If the mouse responds here but fails in a particular application, check that application and your button mapping. Compare before and after results under the same test settings.
What to do if something looks wrong
- Reconnect the mouse or receiver directly to a different USB port. Bypass an unpowered hub.
- Check charge, batteries and visible cable damage. Replace a detachable cable with a compatible known-good cable.
- Disconnect the mouse before gently clearing loose dust around buttons and the wheel. Follow the maker’s cleaning instructions; do not pour liquid into it.
- Check button assignments and install updates from your operating system or mouse manufacturer. Avoid third-party driver download sites.
- Repeat on another computer. A symptom that follows the mouse makes a hardware problem more plausible, but browser results alone cannot identify a worn switch or encoder.

Frequently asked questions
Can this mouse button tester tell me my mouse is broken?
It shows the press and release events your browser receives. A repeat signal is a reason to investigate, not proof of a broken mouse. A missing signal may come from the connection, button mapping, browser or hardware. Compare another USB port and computer.
Why are left and right buttons labelled primary and secondary?
The browser reports logical button assignments. If you swapped buttons in your system settings, the primary signal can come from the physical right button. Match the result to your configured layout.
Can I test mouse side buttons?
Yes. Back and Forward signals are shown when your browser delivers them. Some operating systems, browsers and remapping software reserve those buttons for navigation. Unavailable side-button events do not establish a fault.
Will using the keyboard count as a mouse click?
No. You can start, finish and share a test with the keyboard, but keyboard activation and touch taps do not become mouse samples. Use your physical mouse inside the test area.
