Mouse Left Click Not Working?
The pointer moves, but a left click does nothing. Check mapping, then press and release.
Check which button is primary
The browser reports primary and secondary actions. If your system or mouse software swaps them, the physical right button can provide the primary event. Review that mapping before interpreting the diagram.
Compare a full click cycle
Start the button test and make spaced clicks. Look for a press and its matching release. If the other main buttons work but this one repeatedly produces no signal, note that specific difference. Missing events stay incomplete in the tool because it cannot know whether you physically pressed the button.
Check unwanted repeats separately
If a single press seems to open or select twice, use the double click test with deliberate pauses. Intentional fast clicks produce the same timing pattern, so pacing matters. Repeatable short intervals can justify further investigation but do not establish switch wear.
Compare connection and another computer
Reconnect, try a direct USB port and check official updates. Clean loose exterior dust with the mouse disconnected according to the maker’s instructions. If the same button symptom follows the mouse across computers, ask the manufacturer about repair or warranty before opening it.

Frequently asked questions
Why does right-click work while left-click does not?
Mapping, application behavior or a problem specific to one button can explain that difference. Compare logical primary and secondary events and a second application or computer.
Does a missing left-click event prove switch failure?
No. A browser test cannot locate the cause. Connection, mapping, software and hardware are all possibilities until you reproduce the symptom more broadly.
Should I open the mouse to fix the left button?
Start with non-invasive checks and manufacturer guidance. Opening it can affect warranty and requires model-specific repair knowledge. This site does not provide a repair certification.

Methods are browser observations, not hardware certification. See the scoring formulas and limitations.
